The Phighten Phils and Serving the Kingdom of God

My favorite baseball team lost in the second round of the MLB playoffs last week after they were expected to go to the World Series. The Philadelphia Phillies captured the baseball world’s attention with a stellar first half of the season. However, after the All-Star Break the proverbial wheels started falling off culminating in an embarrassing loss to their arch rivals, the New York Mets.

Is hope lost for another shot at a World Series championship? An emphatic “no”! Many baseball people think the Phighten Phils still have a two or three year window to go after a world championship. They will have most of their acclaimed pitching and all-star fielders once again next season. They have a good mix of talented youth, young veterans, and a generational talent in Bryce Harper who can win a game with one swing of bat. In addition, they have good management and an ownership willing to do what it takes to win it all and create a memory for the fans of Philadelphia.

So think about this! Do you think your window to be a light for Christ has closed? Did your window close when you had that financial setback 7 years ago? Did your window close because your spouse and you have not been on the same page for the last 2 years? Your window has not closed. Maybe you just don’t see the talents and opportunities that God has given you to share the gospel with others. Maybe you don’t feel like you’re part of the team.

Your window for being God’s Kingdom worker is never closed. You may need a few years to “re-tool” or to go back to the “minor leagues” for some basic spiritual training. However, you will return to the first string because Christ calls everyone to work on the front lines of Kingdom work.

Ask God to help you take a look again at your window. Ask Him to help you open it back up and use your talents and the time God’s given you to serve His Kingdom. See where God can lead you in doing His Kingdom work. Go for that World Series ring by serving Christ.
